It has 94 permanent members, which enables it to perform the entire symphonic repertoire from the classical period to the 21st century. The orchestra has been part of Fundação Casa da Música since July 2006.
Remix Ensemble is Casa da Música’s contemporary music group. Since its debut in 2000, the group has already performed the world premieres of more than eighty five works.
Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música was formed in 2006 to perform Baroque music from a historically-informed perspective.
Coro Casa da Música gave its first concert in 2009 under the direction of Paul Hillier, its principal conductor.

Music opens a book of stories and allows us to play with all our senses awakened. A party atmosphere, with characters that communicate in “small people language”, characterizes the concerts for the little ones. Sounds and rhythms of all sizes and shapes are the basis for expressing and understanding music. There are subliminal messages in words and mimicry that represent life lessons. In a genetically cheerful environment everyone is able to learn. In addition to several premieres, this tiny-important public can also enjoy reprises of some of our best productions.
Constituting an auditions program that extends throughout the school year, each performance has only five previously scheduled sessions - a Sunday reserved for families (three different times to choose from) and Monday for kindergartens and preschools (two different times to choose from). Exceptionally, the performance Opostos Bem-dipostos opens its doors to primary schools and PerlimpimPUM! has two extra sessions on a Friday, both programmed for the 1st and 2nd years of Elementary School.

They involve the entire society and all musical styles and processes. They can wander through unexplored areas or rediscover a familiar world, always welcoming an active participation. They integrate other art forms and new disciplines, taking risks and combining different things. They reconfigure the human dimension of the stage with people from different sociocultural contexts; artists, musicians and non-musicians. Concerts for All is one of the pillars of our educational, social and artistic intervention.
Starting at 6 years old, all ages are appropriate for watching educational and playful performances based on innovative and traditional approaches and the combination between the old and the new. From October to July, the majority of these events are our own productions. Some of them result from community and training projects developed over several months. From debuts to reprises of historic performances, every event is unmissable.
What is this song we are about to hear? Is there any other message in addition to the musical one? Who wrote it? When did that person live and what was society like at that time? These are just some of the questions answered by the preconcert lectures. With the duration of approximately 30 minutes, the lectures precede the concerts with a brief explanation on the historical, social and musical context in which the works from the program were created, in an attempt to attract the public’s attention to a more informed experience.

Why did Haydn name a Symphony after a Bear? How can a demonic character like Fausto be portrayed through the sounds of an orchestra? Can we hear the marimbeiros from Mozambique in a symphony by Joly Braga Santos? And do we all feel the same way when we hear the same music? These are some of the issues brought to light in the commented concerts. Afterwards, it is the orchestra’s job to provide the answers with brief examples, musical illustrations that anticipate the complete performance. The Commented Concerts allow us to listen in a different and more informed way, bringing music lovers and families closer to the great works of the symphonic repertoire.
