Formar na Casa, Formar na Digitópia, Curso Livre da História da Música e XI Curso de Formação de Animadores Musicais.
Starting with a tree, we can reach the entire forest. With the training sessions for teachers, we wish to positively infect a larger universe – the universe where the future is made - encouraging creativity at school and showing how a consistent musical and artistic experience can influence the students’ achievement.
This intervention asks for less theory and more practice. Accordingly, Training at Casa da Música includes innovative processes for working with music, involving other disciplines and comprising experiences that can easily be replicated in the classroom and are transversal to the entire curriculum. And because we are aware that in order to reach the forest we have to start with a tree, Training at Casa da Música contributes to the professional and personal development of teachers as creative individuals.
Digital tools have revolutionized the world of musical achievement, extending it to new musicians and new songs, democratizing the opportunities for creation. Digitópia’s intensive courses reflect this panorama of continuous expansion, focusing on processes and languages of creative programming.
Designed for musicians, digital artists, programmers, teachers and other professionals or students of electronic music and digital art, these courses are practical in nature: the approach to various software, mostly in open source, is carried out through experimentation. Therefore, simple and intuitive exploratory processes take place, immediately challenging creation.
The courses run over a weekend, but are structured in independent sessions (albeit complementary) - there is a program on Saturday and another on Sunday. The interested parties are given the opportunity to participate in both days or only in one. If you ask us what the best option is, the answer is obvious...

The 7th edition of the Open Course on the History of Music takes us on a journey through the great moments in the history of Russian music. Paulo Ferreira de Castro tells us about the relationship between Russian music and the West. Rimsky-Korsakoff's great treatise on orchestration is the inspiration for an excursion to the art of orchestration led by Daniel Moreira. Sacred music in the Orthodox tradition holds some of the most fabulous treasures of Russian music, unraveled by Svetlana Poliakova. João Silva introduces us to the great composers of the Soviet Union and the troubled relationships that existed between them and the political regime. Finally, the journey takes us to imperial Russia and the magnificent court of Catherine the Great.
Aimed at audiences that are not specifically knowledgeable about music, this course provides a general framework on various topics of music history, focusing also in extramusical aspects, promoting interdisciplinarity, using clarifying examples about the places and protagonists that marked our culture.

Each edition is different with new participants in new community and artistic projects. This course represents the construction of an identity between musicians with different stories and trajectories that gather at the same time in several places. The structure of the program remains, guided by an international panel of instructors and general principles: bringing together various groups from different sociocultural contexts, enabling strong musical and performative experiences, forming an ensemble with a language of its own. This is why the constantly renewed Training Course for Music Performers is now on its 11th edition.
Created to address the lack of a thorough preparation of musicians for the development of community activities, the course lasts for one academic year, and its nature is mainly practical – at Casa da Música and outside the foundation, in a real exercise of musical entertainment.
The program is divided into three modules. The students are required to participate in projects and productions carried out by the Education Service, dealing with different social sensibilities and artistic processes. Simultaneously, the students are responsible for Sonópolis, a performance that assimilates various community actions throughout the year. In a multicultural stage, the ensemble’s public expression becomes more significant.
Musical creation, improvisation, interaction with different agents, project leadership and teamwork are the skills acquired in a training program that is genuinely positive for every participant from a personal and artistic point of view.
