First Concerts, Concerts for All, Pre-concert Lectures and Commented Concerts
They are special, they are the first... Designed for children from 3 months to 6 years old, these staged concerts introduce music with colourful sets and costumes, and characters from enchanted worlds. They have the delicacy of cotton candy and the enthusiasm of a pesky toddler, but are filtered for educational purposes: their goal is to provide our younger audience the foundations of musical comprehension and expression, as well as convey some messages that constitute the ABCs of life.
Between premieres and reeditions of successful productions, there are seven First Concerts painting the academic year with repertoires and affections. Each performance has only five scheduled sessions on two consecutive days, a Sunday reserved for families (with three times to choose from) and a Monday for pre-school nurseries (with two available times).

Inclusion defines the genetic code of these concerts. We open ours doors to audiences of all ages; we mix various arts and complementary disciplines; we use different methods of working with music that accept tradition and disruption. Our principle is this: open arms. Complete freedom. The joy to cocreate and the willingness to share. Without leaving anyone out. Without prejudice.
These performances go beyond the stage, running through many places. They result in a program with an artistic, educational and playful nature that is as creative as it is educational. They have a unique comprehension of the world, the city, and individuality. They give voice to different communities and reach every person through diversity. Between premieres and improved reeditions, these in-house productions are always for Everyone.
Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música
Which facts, stories and lives are encompassed in the music we are about to hear? To what place and time does it belong? Who wrote it? What was their motivation? And what about the piece itself, how does it develop, what instruments does it call for? There are many questions implicit in the Pre- concert Lectures. In about 30 minutes, we address general issues related to the repertoire that will be presented. After this brief historical, social and musical contextualization, that also reveals curious and interesting facts, the audience is more informed and can enjoy the music while it tells its whole story.

In the Commented Concerts music sounds like a country, such as Spain or the United States, and there are witches dancing to the music. There are symphonies with names of gods and songs that illustrate the wonderful New World. Some sounds tell the story of a revolution. Among extremely famous pieces of the repertoire, the secrets of an orchestration and the details of the interpretation of each conductor are revealed. With a brief introduction and examples from the orchestra, the works are presented in order to be enjoyed in a more informed manner, attentive to detail. With approximately one hour, the Commented Concerts are suitable for audiences of all ages and provide an unforgettable opportunity to look at the great symphonic music in a different way.
