Femi Temowo
Femi Temowo appeared in the British jazz scene a decade and a half ago, as a member of the Soweto Kinch quartet, and quickly won over the critics. He was music director and guitarist for Amy Winehouse, with whom he travelled through Europe on tour. While he has collaborated with prominent figures like George Benson and Dee Dee Bridgewater, where he truly reveals his originality is in the solo work he has been developing since 2006, intersecting the languages of jazz and the traditions of West Africa, where he spent the first ten years of his life. Under the influence of the songs of the Yoruba people or the music of King Sunny Adé, Fela Kuti and Ebenezer Obey, which she listened to as a child, or even Miles Davis or Wes Montgomery, Femi Temowo’s jazz is unique, contagious and truly innovative.
Lokomotiv
Lokomotiv is one of the Portuguese jazz formations with greater longevity, and not by accident. Formed by three of the most dynamic musicians on the national scene, the trio has a great aesthetic flexibility, influenced by genres as diverse as rock, popular and erudite music. “Finding connecting vessels between closed compartments,” according to Barretto, is the great motive of this trio that never hesitates to risk, in the studio as well as on stage. Eight years after their last album, and celebrating the 20 years of the trio, now appears Gnosis, a truly collective record with compositions by the three musicians and totally improvised tracks.
